Forensic expert explains how accidental and criminal injuries are distinguished

Forensic medicine consultant Osama Al-Madani has highlighted the challenges in distinguishing between accidental and criminal injuries, noting that forensic specialists rely on specific tools and standards to reach accurate conclusions.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Madani explained that forensic doctors base their assessments on the incident history provided by criminal investigation authorities, and examine the injuries to determine their age and significance from both medical and legal perspectives.

Al-Madani added that forensic experts use various indicators to help determine the likely nature of an injury, emphasizing that prompt examination can clarify the evidence. He noted that most injuries are initially treated in emergency departments, where lifesaving interventions may take priority over evidence collection. Therefore, accurately photographing and documenting wounds is essential to ensure the precision of forensic reports.

Al-Madani stressed that forensic medicine aims to apply medical knowledge in the service of justice, covering all relevant cases and disputes. He affirmed that forensic doctors play a crucial role at crime scenes by providing key findings that support investigative authorities.
