Qur’an memorizers compete in Makkah at King Abdulaziz International Competition

The final round of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Qur’an is underway in Makkah, bringing together contestants from various countries and continents in a spiritual atmosphere united by their dedication to the Holy Book and its sciences. The annual event, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, has become a prominent fixture in the Islamic world.

Among the participants is Mauritanian contestant Ibrahim Mohammed Said in the first category, who noted his deep engagement with Qur’anic recitation sciences and expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for their efforts in serving the Qur’an and its followers and for organizing the competition.

From Belgium, Elias Al-Qurashi is competing in the fifth category. He expressed pride in standing in Makkah and reciting the Qur’an at its place of revelation, describing his participation as an exceptional experience that brings focus and tranquility.

Diverse stories, united purpose

Ayyan, another representative from Belgium, said reaching the finals fulfilled a long-held dream, as he had aspired to represent his country in this international competition and finally achieved it in Makkah.

Mohammed Zakaria from Bangladesh is competing in the fourth category. He reflected on his journey from a small village to Makkah thanks to the Qur’an, emphasizing that participating in the competition and standing in the Grand Mosque is a great honor and an unforgettable milestone in his life.

In the fifth category, Anil Roman Mandoldo from Argentina stands out as the youngest contestant at just seven years old. He expressed pride in taking part in this global Qur’anic event near the Grand Mosque, calling it a unique experience that will remain in his memory.

A global platform for Qur’anic talent

The contestants’ stories highlight the diverse backgrounds and cultures of Qur’an memorizers, underscoring the competition’s role as a global space for spiritual and scholarly exchange within the Grand Mosque.
