Mecca joint defense pact sends deterrence message amid military escalation, analyst says

Political analyst Khaled Al-Nazr has said the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement aims to support stability in the region, noting that it carries defensive, economic, and geographic dimensions, and sends a message of deterrence amid ongoing military escalations.

Speaking in an interview with Al-Ekhbariya channel, Al-Nazr explained that the agreement was established to preserve stability in the region, including Saudi Arabia, and stressed that it contributes to strengthening the security and stability of the area as a defensive pact.

He added that the agreement represents a stance against chaos and instability in the region, and delivers a deterrent message, especially given the current military escalations. He pointed out that the three signatory countries are pivotal states within their regional surroundings.

Al-Nazr highlighted the agreement's economic, military, and geographic significance, as well as its role in enhancing cooperation among the three countries.

He clarified that the agreement stipulates any armed attack on one of the three countries is considered an attack on all, and that it aims to develop all aspects of defense cooperation among them.
