Social Insurance launches 'Life After Retirement' innovation hackathon

The 'Life After Retirement' innovation hackathon, organized by the General Organization for Social Insurance, began yesterday and will run from September 7 to 9. The event brings together 45 university students and recent graduates, who will embark on an innovation journey to develop creative solutions aimed at enhancing quality of life after retirement.

Held at the Social Insurance headquarters in Riyadh, the hackathon features four main tracks: health, financial stability, quality of life and community, and opportunities in freelancing and the sharing economy. Participants will compete to develop innovative solutions that address the needs of retirees, helping them achieve greater financial and social stability.

The first day opened with a session outlining the hackathon's objectives and main themes, introducing the work methodology and solution development stages. Participants then began analyzing challenges using open data and advanced analytical tools supported by modern technologies and artificial intelligence. They also took part in brainstorming sessions and consulted with experts to select innovative concepts for practical solutions.

Over the next two days, participants will move from understanding challenges to building and validating prototypes, under the guidance of experts and specialists. They will also refine their presentation skills in preparation for the final stage. The hackathon will conclude with the development of final, viable prototypes, which will be presented to a specialized judging panel to select the winning projects, with opportunities for incubation and further development.

The hackathon is supported by several strategic partners. The General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha'at) is providing specialized workshops and opportunities to connect winning ideas with incubators and venture capital firms. The Saudi Innovation Club is offering mentorship and support for idea development, while IBM is providing technical guidance and support for solution development. KPMG is participating in preparatory workshops and offering technical support as a business consulting firm to help improve and finalize initial plans into actionable business models.

The 'Life After Retirement' innovation hackathon is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to support innovation, empower national talent, and build partnerships that develop future solutions to enhance post-retirement quality of life and foster a culture of innovation in the social insurance sector.
