Heavy thunderstorms and flash floods expected across southern and western Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology, in its daily weather report, has forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms leading to flash floods, accompanied by hail, across parts of Najran, Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha, with the weather system extending to the southern highlands of the Makkah region.

The report added that strong winds stirring dust and sand will continue to affect parts of these regions, as well as areas in Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and parts of Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah, particularly along coastal areas.

Sea and wind conditions

The center noted that surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 20–40 km/h, with wave heights ranging from one to two meters and moderate sea conditions.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be southeasterly to southwesterly at 10–30 km/h, with wave heights from half a meter to one and a half meters, and sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate.
