Arab League chief condemns attacks on Saudi oil facilities

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has strongly condemned the targeting of the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions of Saudi Arabia by several drones launched from Iraqi territory, which resulted in human and material casualties. He described the attack as a blatant violation of Saudi sovereignty, a serious threat to its security and stability, and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter.

According to an Arab League statement, Fahmy stressed that targeting infrastructure, oil facilities, and energy transport lines poses a direct threat to energy security and the stability of both regional and global economies. He reaffirmed the Arab League's categorical rejection of the use of any Arab country's territory as a launchpad for attacks against another Arab state, or any action that undermines its security and stability.

The Secretary-General reiterated the Arab League's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all legitimate and necessary measures the Kingdom takes to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and national resources, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.

Fahmy also expressed his appreciation for Saudi Arabia's decision not to retaliate at this time, allowing the Iraqi government the opportunity to take the necessary steps to prevent such attacks from recurring. He said this approach strengthens the principles of good neighborliness and preserves regional security and stability.
