Saudi Red Crescent saves Nigerian pilgrim after cardiac arrest at Prophet’s Mosque

Emergency teams from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in Madinah saved the life of a 40-year-old Nigerian pilgrim after he suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque on Thursday evening.

Acting Director General of the authority’s Madinah branch, Dr. Omar bin Hussein Al-Attas, said the emergency teams responded to the incident within 32 seconds of arrival. Medical assessment confirmed the pilgrim was in cardiac and respiratory arrest.

Al-Attas added that the teams followed approved medical protocols and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, while dispatching an additional support team to the scene, successfully restoring the man’s pulse.

Patient transferred after pulse restored

Al-Attas noted that after field treatment, the patient was transferred to Al-Safiah Health Center, where he was handed over following successful resuscitation and return of pulse.

He emphasized that this success reflects the high readiness and coordination between the medical dispatch center and emergency teams, as well as the competence and training of authority staff. He urged the public to cooperate and report emergencies promptly, highlighting the crucial role this plays in saving lives.
