‘Sura Makkah’ cultural tour brings together 34 participants from Makkah, Jeddah and Taif

Makkah hosted a cultural journey on Sunday as part of the ‘Sura Makkah’ program, organized by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites in cooperation with the Heritage Commission and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. The event brought together 34 participants from Makkah, Jeddah and Taif, including academics from Umm Al-Qura University, tour guides, students, and community members, for an experience that combined exploring historical landmarks with showcasing the city’s achievements in serving pilgrims.

The tour spanned from the Jamarat Building to Bay’ah Mosque, offering a cultural and educational route that highlighted both modern projects serving Hajj pilgrims and historical sites linked to the Prophet’s biography, reflecting Makkah’s religious and historical significance.

During the visit to the Jamarat Building, participants learned about one of the most significant engineering accomplishments in the holy sites, illustrating the scale of efforts and resources dedicated by Saudi Arabia to facilitate Hajj rituals and enhance safety and comfort for pilgrims, demonstrating the ongoing care provided by the Kingdom’s leadership.

The journey also included a visit to Bay’ah Mosque, associated with the historic Pledge of Aqabah, a pivotal moment in Islamic history that symbolizes the support of the Ansar for the Prophet Muhammad and marked significant developments in the spread of Islam.

The tour featured scholarly insights from Dr. Abdullah Al-Suwaid on inscriptions and historical markers, along with informative explanations from accompanying tour guides, enriching the experience and deepening participants’ understanding of the historical and cultural dimensions of the sites visited.

The participation of academics, tour guides, students, and community members from Makkah, Jeddah and Taif provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, raise awareness of the region’s historical and cultural heritage, and enable diverse groups to discover landmarks tied to the history of the holy city.

The ‘Sura Makkah’ journey is part of ongoing efforts to highlight the historical and cultural identity of Makkah, strengthen community ties to its landmarks, and present the city’s heritage to future generations through interactive, educational field experiences that blend tradition with modern development.
