Saudi, German foreign ministers meet in Berlin, sign memorandum of understanding

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the longstanding bilateral relations between their countries and discussed ways to further strengthen and develop cooperation across various fields.

They also discussed current regional developments, emphasizing the importance of securing international waterways, ensuring freedom of maritime navigation, and restoring normalcy to the Strait of Hormuz to enhance regional security and stability and maintain the smooth flow of global trade. Both ministers reiterated their support for all efforts aimed at finding peaceful and diplomatic solutions to regional and international crises.

The talks also covered economic and trade relations, including the volume of bilateral trade and opportunities to expand it, reflecting the depth of ties and opening new avenues for cooperation and investment.

During the meeting, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Germany to establish a strategic dialogue at the foreign minister level, aiming to enhance consultation, coordination, and bilateral relations across multiple sectors.

The meeting was attended by Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad, Director General of the General Department for European Countries, and Mohammed Al-Yahya, adviser to the foreign minister.
