Saudi UN envoy urges commitment to Jeddah Platform pledges on Sudan

Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, took part in a UN Security Council session discussing the humanitarian situation in Sudan.

During the session, Dr. Al-Wasel emphasized the need to uphold the pledges made under the Jeddah Platform and relevant Security Council resolutions. He warned that targeting Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and institutional integrity has worsened the humanitarian crisis and fueled further conflict and insecurity.

The Saudi envoy strongly condemned violations and attacks by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians, particularly in North and South Kordofan, which have resulted in casualties and damage to relief convoys and facilities.

Ongoing Saudi support for Sudan

Dr. Al-Wasel called for unhindered humanitarian access to all areas of Sudan and welcomed the Sudanese government’s decision to open the Adre crossing, in line with international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration.

He noted that Saudi Arabia continues to support the Sudanese people, providing $100 million through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, with total Saudi aid to Sudan exceeding $3.1 billion.
