Kuwait voices support for Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defense after militia attacks

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the continued attacks on Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed militias in Iraq, describing them as a clear attempt to escalate tensions and destabilize the region. The ministry said the latest incident involved the launch of drones targeting oil facilities in the Eastern Province on Sunday evening, calling it a blatant violation of Saudi sovereignty and a threat to the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity. The statement noted that these attacks come as Saudi Arabia is making sincere efforts to help de-escalate the situation in the region.

In an official statement posted on its X account, the ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, expressing support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security, sovereignty, interests and resources. The ministry also stressed Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right to self-defense under international law, specifically Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The Kuwaiti foreign ministry emphasized that the security of Saudi Arabia is inseparable from the security of Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council states.
