Transport ministry approves new regulations for inspection and maintenance of marine rescue equipment

Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, has approved the executive regulations for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and recertification of marine rescue equipment and devices. The move aims to regulate the sector, set licensing requirements for operating facilities, and enhance safety and reliability in the maritime transport sector in line with relevant international laws and agreements.

According to a statement from the authority, the new regulations are designed to improve the efficiency of inspection and maintenance operations for marine rescue equipment, ensuring readiness for emergency response and the protection of lives at sea.

The authority noted that the regulations specify technical and organizational requirements for practicing the activity. Key provisions include employing certified technicians, providing necessary equipment and tools, implementing a quality management system, adhering to manufacturers’ instructions, using original and approved spare parts, and maintaining records of completed work, which must be made available to the authority and authorized bodies upon request.

The regulations apply to vessels flying the Saudi flag and to facilities operating within the Kingdom. They will come into effect in 90 days. The Public Transport Authority has invited interested parties to review the full text and details of the executive regulations on its website.
