Saudi customs foil attempt to smuggle over 36,000 amphetamine pills at Haditha crossing

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at the Haditha border crossing has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 36,773 amphetamine pills, which were found hidden in a bus arriving in Saudi Arabia through the crossing.

ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said that during customs procedures, security technologies and detection dogs were used to inspect a bus, leading to the discovery of the pills concealed in a specially prepared compartment beneath the vehicle.

The spokesperson stressed that the authority remains committed to strict customs control over all imports and exports at the Kingdom’s border crossings, and will continue to confront smuggling attempts. This effort is part of ZATCA’s strategy to enhance security and protect society by preventing the entry of drugs and other prohibited items, in coordination with partners such as the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

Al-Harbi called on the public to help combat smuggling and protect society and the national economy by reporting suspicious activities to ZATCA via the security hotline (1910), email ([email protected]), or the international number (009661910). Reports are treated confidentially, and financial rewards are offered for information that leads to confirmed violations.
