Turkey: Attack on any Mecca defense pact member is attack on all

The Turkish presidency announced that any armed attack on countries party to the joint defense agreement signed today in Mecca will be considered an attack on all of them.

In a statement posted on its X account, the Turkish presidency clarified that "any armed attack on any of the countries—Turkey, Saudi Arabia, or Pakistan—will be regarded as an attack on all."

According to the statement, the Turkish presidency noted that "the signing of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement reflects a commitment to further strengthening collective security," adding that "the agreement aims to bolster collective deterrence against any hostile act."

Earlier today, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan announced in a joint statement the signing of a joint defense agreement to enhance collective deterrence should any of the countries face an attack.

The statement added that the "Mecca Joint Defense Summit" was held, during which the distinguished relations among Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan were reviewed, along with a number of issues of mutual interest.

According to the statement, "the agreement aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any aggressive act, and stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three countries will be considered an attack on all." The agreement also provides for enhanced defense cooperation in all areas among the three nations.
