An international team of scientists from the UK, Sweden, and France has discovered a new mechanism for blood clot formation, challenging previous beliefs about the arrangement of the protein fibrinogen, a key component in blood coagulation.

Experiments conducted at the Laue-Langevin Institute in Grenoble, France, revealed that fibrinogen molecules align horizontally in multiple stacked layers resembling a pack of cards when exposed to air, rather than forming a single slanted layer as previously thought for decades.
