Saudi Arabia enters 13-day Al-Mirzam heatwave, marking summer peak

Saudi Arabia has entered the Al-Mirzam season, which marks the onset of peak summer heat across the Arabian Peninsula and lasts for 13 days, ushering in one of the hottest periods of the year.

Weather and climate expert Khaled Al-Zaaq explained that Al-Mirzam is associated with the Sirius star, and its arrival signals the intensification of heat and the beginning of a period that demands increased effort and productivity.

Al-Zaaq added that the Al-Kulaibeen season immediately follows Al-Mirzam and also lasts 13 days, making the combined 26-day stretch the hottest phase of summer in the region.

During this period, harvesting of summer crops and livestock care become more active, historically representing a crucial stage in the economic and agricultural cycle for the people of the Arabian Peninsula.

After Al-Mirzam and Al-Kulaibeen, the gradual transition to the Suhail season begins, which is associated with a gradual easing of the heat, especially at night. The appearance of the Suhail star is an important indicator for seasonal changes, agricultural schedules, and fruit ripening, as Arabs traditionally relied on the Suhail solar calendar to organize climate- and agriculture-related activities.
