Al-Ahsa governor inaugurates King Abdullah-Riyadh Road intersection project

Al-Ahsa Governor Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr inaugurated the upgraded intersection of King Abdullah Road (the inner ring road) and Riyadh Road on Tuesday evening, in the presence of Al-Ahsa Mayor Essam bin Abdulatif Al-Mulla and several local officials. The project is expected to significantly improve the road network’s efficiency and ease traffic flow along one of the governorate’s key corridors.

The project was completed six months ahead of schedule, reflecting the accelerated pace of development projects, improved project management, and adherence to quality and efficiency standards in infrastructure works.

The governor emphasized that Al-Ahsa’s rapid development and infrastructure achievements are the result of strong support from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as ongoing backing from the Eastern Province governor and his deputy.

He added that completing the King Abdullah-Riyadh Road intersection upgrade ahead of schedule demonstrates the region’s commitment to swift, high-quality execution and safety standards. The project, he said, is a testament to the effective collaboration among stakeholders and will enhance traffic efficiency and the overall travel experience in Al-Ahsa.

The governor noted that improving road networks and key corridors not only upgrades services but also underpins sustainable development, supports urban and economic growth, and improves quality of life—aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and strengthening Al-Ahsa’s position as a promising economic and tourism destination.

During the inauguration, the governor reviewed the project’s components and phases, and was briefed on the engineering and operational solutions designed to improve road safety and accommodate current and future traffic volumes.

Al-Ahsa Mayor Essam Al-Mulla described the project as a strategic initiative to upgrade the road network and major intersections. He highlighted that its early completion reflects strong execution and quality standards, and that its engineering solutions will boost safety, traffic flow, and the urban landscape.

The project includes a 1,500-meter tunnel with three lanes in each direction, supported by elevated service roads. Construction involved about 40,000 cubic meters of concrete, 55,000 square meters of paving, and 2,500 linear meters of stormwater drainage.

Urban enhancements include 4,000 square meters of decorative artwork, 1,300 linear meters of motifs inspired by Al-Ahsa’s heritage, the planting of 2,500 trees and shrubs, and installation of 140 lighting poles.

The upgraded King Abdullah-Riyadh Road intersection is a vital part of Al-Ahsa’s transport network, offering traffic solutions that improve connectivity, support transit, enhance infrastructure, and boost quality of life—further establishing Al-Ahsa as a leading destination for development, business, and tourism.
