Death sentence carried out for convicted murderer in Riyadh

The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that the death sentence had been carried out against Daes bin Khalaf bin Aghsain Al-Shaybani, a Saudi national, after he was convicted of murdering fellow citizen Muayid bin Sultan bin Muayid Al-Muqati Al-Otaibi in the Riyadh region.

The ministry stated that the perpetrator killed the victim by stabbing him multiple times with a sharp instrument, resulting in his death.

Authorities confirmed that the perpetrator was apprehended, and investigations led to his being formally charged with the crime. After completing all legal procedures, the case was referred to the competent court, which sentenced him to death in retribution. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, and a royal order was issued to implement the sentence in accordance with Islamic law.

The execution was carried out in the Riyadh region on Tuesday, 28 Safar 1448 AH, corresponding to August 11, 2026.

The Ministry of Interior reiterated the Saudi government's commitment to maintaining security, upholding justice, and enforcing Islamic law. The ministry also warned that anyone considering similar crimes would face the prescribed legal punishment.
