Saudi Arabia ranks among G20's top five for mobile internet speed

The fifth edition of the "Saudi Internet 2025" report, released by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, revealed that the median mobile internet download speed in the Kingdom has risen to 216 Mbps, up from 203 Mbps last year, placing Saudi Arabia among the top five G20 countries for this indicator.

According to the report, the average monthly mobile data consumption per person reached 53 GB—about three times the global average—reflecting continued growth in digital services and applications usage. The median 5G download speed was recorded at 320 Mbps, while the median mobile internet latency stood at 24 milliseconds.

For fixed internet, the median download speed increased to 151 Mbps, compared to 120.4 Mbps the previous year. The median upload speed reached 73 Mbps, and median latency was 8 milliseconds, according to Ookla data analysis.

The report also noted that total internet data traffic in Saudi Arabia reached 69 million terabytes, with 56% attributed to domestic data and 44% to international data. Mobile and fixed networks each accounted for 50% of total data traffic. Riyadh led in internet data volume with 30.6%, followed by Makkah at 20.5% and the Eastern Province at 16.8%.

The report highlighted that 67% of users have adopted Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), and there are around 200 Saudi networks (ASN) online, reflecting the Kingdom's advanced digital infrastructure and its capacity to keep pace with rapid digital service growth.

This comes as Saudi Arabia ranked first globally in the International Telecommunication Union's 2023 ICT Development Index, ahead of 159 economies, underscoring the efficiency and readiness of its digital infrastructure to support digital transformation and sustainable growth.
