Palestinian presidency warns of new Israeli settlement plan east of Jerusalem

The Palestinian presidency on Monday warned of the dangers posed by new settlement plans announced by Israeli authorities to build 3,701 housing units in the E1 area east of occupied Jerusalem.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for the Palestinian presidency, stressed that these steps represent a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

Abu Rudeineh explained that the continued issuance of tenders by Israeli authorities in the E1 area demonstrates the Israeli government's determination to impose a settlement reality on the ground, in clear defiance of the international community and its positions rejecting settlement activity.

Risks to Palestinian territorial unity

Abu Rudeineh noted that the E1 plan threatens the unity and geographic continuity of Palestinian land, imposing new facts aimed at undermining the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He added that the continuation of these policies poses a direct threat to efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region.

Call for international action

The Palestinian presidency called on the international community to take practical and immediate steps to compel the Israeli government to halt all settlement activities, and urged the provision of international protection for the Palestinian people and an end to all unilateral measures that violate international law.
