US envoy to UN voices strong support for Saudi Arabia and Yemen government

The United States representative at the UN Security Council reaffirmed today his country’s strong support for Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government in their right to self-defense.

He added: "We remain committed to working with our partners to counter the Houthi threat and to defend freedom of navigation."

The US envoy also called on Iran to halt its support for the Houthis, noting that the Yemeni group is a tool used by Tehran to destabilize the region.

Speaking during a Security Council session on the situation in Yemen, he said: "The flow of weapons to the Houthis must stop, and we urge the unconditional release of our embassy staff detained by the Houthis in Yemen."
