Wild sidr shrub boosts biodiversity in King Salman Royal Reserve

The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is home to a remarkable variety of perennial plant species, most notably the wild sidr shrub, which is deeply rooted in local environmental heritage and plays a key role in maintaining ecological balance within the reserve.

The wild sidr shrub belongs to the Rhamnaceae family and is widespread in the Hail and Khanfa regions, where it significantly enriches the natural ecosystem that the reserve’s development authority is dedicated to protecting and preserving.

This shrub is distinguished by its unique morphological features, reaching heights of over three meters, with dense, intertwined, and thorny branches. These characteristics enable it to withstand harsh climatic conditions and provide a safe haven for wildlife.

In line with this, the reserve’s development authority continues its efforts to protect both historic and wild trees, as part of its environmental mission to enhance vegetation cover and safeguard natural resources. These initiatives also support national efforts to achieve comprehensive sustainability and the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
