Shrimp season opens in Eastern Province with higher prices

Strong demand for shrimp has dominated both shoppers and vendors in Eastern Province markets.

Shoppers expressed satisfaction with the abundant supply reaching the markets and voiced optimism for a prosperous season.

Fadel Turab, a fish vendor, told Al Arabiya that supplies are plentiful, with prices varying by size and quality, but noted that prices are slightly higher than in previous seasons.

Basem Al-Muhaiji, an auctioneer at one of the markets, added that this year’s season has begun with a wide range of shrimp sizes available. He pointed out that prices in the markets are closely linked to the overall supply.

The shrimp season starts at the beginning of August and attracts significant attention from fishermen, vendors, and buyers alike, leading to brisk trade from the first day of the season until its end.
