Five main routes connect Riyadh to Jazan: transport authority reveals fastest, shortest options

Saudi Arabia ranks first globally for road network connectivity, according to World Competitiveness Forum reports. The Kingdom boasts a road network exceeding 73,000 kilometers, which strengthens links between cities and governorates, improves services for road users, and facilitates travel across all regions.

The Transport General Authority said this network is a key pillar for several sectors, especially tourism and agriculture. Jazan, in particular, is connected by a modern road system that supports economic, tourism, and agricultural activity, making it easier for visitors to reach the region’s mountains, coasts, and farms, and to explore its agricultural, tourism, and cultural assets.

To provide multiple options for travelers, the authority explained that road trips between Riyadh and Jazan can follow five main routes, each differing in distance, travel time, and the towns they pass through.

The fastest route passes through Al-Rayn, Bisha, Abha, and Al-Darb before reaching Jazan, covering about 1,107 kilometers and taking approximately 11 hours and 35 minutes.

The second route goes via Wadi Al-Dawasir, Tathleeth, Abha, and Al-Darb to Jazan, spanning around 1,152 kilometers with a travel time of about 12 hours and 5 minutes. The third route passes through Wadi Al-Dawasir, Tathleeth, Khamis Mushait, Sarat Abidah, and Al-Rayth before reaching Jazan, with a length of about 1,198 kilometers and a journey time of roughly 13 hours and 16 minutes.

The fourth route, which passes through Taif, Al-Baha, Abha, and Al-Darb to Jazan, is about 1,440 kilometers long and takes around 15 hours and 5 minutes. The fifth option goes via Taif, Makkah, Al-Laith, Al-Qunfudhah, and Al-Shaqiq to Jazan, covering approximately 1,474 kilometers and taking about 17 hours.

The authority highlighted Jazan’s strategic location on the Red Sea, serving as a main gateway to the Farasan Islands. The region combines coastal plains, mountains, valleys, and islands, offering diverse environments and climates. Jazan is also renowned for producing Saudi coffee and mangoes, and is home to significant natural, cultural, and tourism attractions. Jazan Port is one of the Kingdom’s most important Red Sea ports, enhancing its economic and logistical standing.

The authority added that these efforts are part of a partnership with the Saudi Tourism Authority to support the tourism sector. The Transport General Authority oversees the sector by setting policies and regulations to achieve the goals of the Road Sector Program, which focuses on safety, quality, and traffic density standards.
