Security and History Dialogue Conference explores institutions’ role in strengthening youth identity

A panel titled "Youth and National Identity" at the Security and History Dialogue Conference 2026 examined the role of educational and community institutions in strengthening national identity among young people, particularly as the current generation faces broad exposure to diverse sources of information and influence.

The session addressed institutional and community mechanisms that help build and reinforce national identity and values among youth. It highlighted the roles of families, schools, universities, as well as volunteer programs and extracurricular activities. The discussion also noted that the social environment in Saudi Arabia has contributed to passing these values on to residents, who are influenced through daily interactions and participation in various activities and events, reflecting the authentic nature and values of Saudi society.

The panel also discussed how volunteer programs and extracurricular activities at Saudi universities foster young people's connection to their communities, support quality of life, and reinforce national identity in all its dimensions, including regional identities linked to cultural and economic heritage.

The session showcased examples of regional cultural and social characteristics, such as Al-Jouf’s association with olive cultivation and Jazan’s with coffee farming, as well as the religious and cultural significance of Makkah and Madinah. These distinct features were emphasized as integral components of the broader Saudi national identity.
