Thunderstorms and flash floods expected across southern and western Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology, in its daily report, forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms today over parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah, which may lead to flash floods and possible hail showers.

The report added that light to moderate rain is expected over parts of Madinah, while thunderclouds may continue to form over parts of Hail, Al-Jouf, and the Northern Borders region.

The center also noted that active winds stirring dust and sand will affect parts of these regions, potentially reducing horizontal visibility.

Red Sea and Arabian Gulf conditions

Regarding the Red Sea, the report stated that surface winds will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds between 20 and 45 km/h, with thunderclouds bringing rain. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one and a half meters, possibly exceeding two meters with thunderstorms. Sea conditions will be light to moderate, becoming rough at times.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northwesterly to westerly at 8–30 km/h, and northwesterly to southwesterly at 8–25 km/h. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter, with generally slight sea conditions.
