Thunderstorms, strong winds forecast for several regions in Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology, in its daily weather report, forecast thunderstorms accompanied by hail over parts of Najran, Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions today, Saturday.

The report added that strong winds raising dust and sand will persist in parts of these regions, as well as in areas of Madinah and along the coastal road extending to Jazan.

Additionally, the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds is possible over parts of the Eastern Province and Riyadh, with high temperatures continuing in those areas, as well as in parts of the Northern Borders and Qassim regions.

Wind and sea conditions

According to the report, surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to southwesterly at speeds of 10–30 km/h, reaching up to 45 km/h over the central and southern parts. Wind speeds may reach 50 km/h with thundercloud formation in the southern section. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter in the north, and from half a meter to two meters in the central and southern parts, possibly exceeding two meters with thunderstorms in the south.

Sea conditions are expected to be slight in the north, slight to moderate in the central and southern sections, and rough with thunderstorms in the southern part.

In the Arabian Gulf, winds will be southeasterly to southwesterly at 10–30 km/h over the northern and central parts, and northeasterly to southeasterly at 10–28 km/h. Wind speeds may reach 50 km/h with thunderstorms in the southern section. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter, possibly exceeding two meters with thunderstorms in the south. Sea conditions will be slight, becoming rough with thunderclouds.
