Saudi Arabia reaffirms commitment to linking diplomacy with humanitarian action

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, participated yesterday in a high-level panel discussion titled "Humanitarian Diplomacy: From Response to Sustainable Peace," organized by the Devex media platform on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah emphasized that Saudi Arabia stands out for its humanitarian role through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, which operates in more than 110 countries and has provided humanitarian assistance exceeding $8.5 billion.

He added that the center carries out its efforts through partnerships with UN agencies, international and regional humanitarian partners, as well as a reliable network of local partners on the ground, enabling effective implementation of humanitarian projects even under the most challenging circumstances.

Continued humanitarian support despite challenges

Al-Rabeeah noted that the center has continued to provide humanitarian support in Sudan after the withdrawal of the UN mission in 2023, working with both local and international partners, including the International Committee of the Red Cross.

He highlighted the center's collaboration with All Hands and Hearts to implement a comprehensive nine-month response project, covering food security, livelihoods, health, and nutrition for communities affected by conflict, benefiting more than 208,000 people.

Commitment to humanitarian law and principles

Dr. Al-Rabeeah reaffirmed the center’s commitment to linking diplomacy with humanitarian action, based on respect for international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles, strengthening accountability, and supporting the transition from crisis to resilience.
