Cybersecurity expert warns of risks from public Wi-Fi in hotels, airports

Cybersecurity professor Sultan Al-Shamrani has warned of the dangers associated with using public Wi-Fi networks in hotels and airports, noting that such networks expose users to significant cyber threats.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Shamrani explained that some scammers create networks with names similar to legitimate public Wi-Fi in order to steal users’ personal data.

He added that even major companies are targeted by impersonators, who alter or add letters to network and website names, increasing the risk of falling victim to fraud.

Authorities continue their efforts to raise public awareness about protecting networks and personal data, warning of scammers who impersonate institutions and bank employees as part of ongoing campaigns to address cyber risks.
