Saudi public prosecution launches remote investigation service for detainees

Public Prosecutor and Chairman of the Public Prosecution Council Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Yousef has directed the launch of an electronic investigation service for detainees held pending investigation in prisons throughout all regions of Saudi Arabia.

According to a statement from the Public Prosecution, the new service is part of ongoing efforts to advance digital transformation and leverage technology to improve performance, deliver swift justice, and ensure a secure investigative environment that upholds human rights standards.

The statement added that the electronic investigation service aims to achieve several objectives, including upholding human rights standards, providing a safe environment, streamlining and expediting judicial procedures, ensuring confidentiality, creating an investigative setting that aligns with legal safeguards, enhancing digital integration, accelerating investigation processes, reducing procedural time and effort, and supporting the digital transformation of the justice system.

The implementation mechanism involves using digital platforms that allow investigators to conduct investigation sessions with detainees via video link within prisons, ensuring that procedures are documented and securely stored electronically in accordance with the highest information security standards.
