Hybrid super white gyrfalcon sells for SAR 1.3m at 2026 auction

The 2026 International Falcon Farms Auction platform witnessed the sale of the most expensive falcon of the year—a hybrid gyrfalcon (super white)—fetching SAR 1.3 million on the seventh night of the auction, organized by the National Center for Falcons at its headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, with leading falcon farms from around the world participating.

The evening also saw the sale of two falcons from a Canadian farm for a combined SAR 1.45 million. The first bird, a pure gyrfalcon chick, opened bidding at SAR 40,000 and sold for SAR 150,000. The second, a hybrid gyrfalcon chick, attracted intense competition, starting at SAR 200,000 and ultimately selling for SAR 1.3 million, making it the second most expensive falcon in the auction's history.

Last year, the auction featured several notable sales, including a "pure super white gyrfalcon" from an American farm that sold for SAR 1.2 million amid fierce competition among buyers for the farms' offerings. In previous years, a "pure ultra white gyrfalcon chick" was sold for SAR 1.75 million, marking the highest price ever recorded at the auction.

The auction provides a unique and trusted destination for elite falcons from around the world, hosting a fast-paced, competitive live auction that brings together falconers, breeders, and enthusiasts from Saudi Arabia and beyond. The event is broadcast on television and streamed live on the center's social media platforms. The auction will welcome visitors until August 25, 2026, drawing significant interest from falconers and those passionate about this cultural heritage.
