Border Guard land patrols in the Jazan and Asir regions have thwarted attempts to smuggle shipments of regulated medical tablets and the narcotic plant khat, arresting five Ethiopian nationals for violating border security regulations.

The Border Guard explained that its patrols in the Al-Ardah sector of Jazan prevented the smuggling of 34,150 regulated medical tablets and arrested one Ethiopian national. In a separate incident in the Raboua sector of Asir, four Ethiopian nationals were apprehended for attempting to smuggle 52 kilograms of khat.

Authorities confirmed that initial legal procedures have been completed for those arrested, and they, along with the seized substances, have been handed over to the competent authorities for further action.

Security agencies reiterated their call for citizens and residents to report any activities related to drug smuggling or trafficking by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, Madinah, and the Eastern Province, 999 or 994 in other regions, the National Drug Control hotline at 995, or by emailing [email protected].
