Saudi Arabiaand United Arab Emirates will provide USD70 million towards the salaries ofteachers in Yemen, in cooperation with the UNICEF, with each country payinghalf of the sum, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
An agreementtoward this effect was signed in Riyadh today by Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz AlRabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King SalmanHumanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, UAEAssistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation forInternational Development Affairs, and Al Tayeb Adam, Representative of UNESCOto GCC States.
The sum willboost the salaries of 136,799 teaching staff in a number of Yemeni governoratesand comes as part of the continued support provided by the two countries toalleviate the humanitarian and economic crisis of the Yemeni people.
The UNICEFrepresentative expressed appreciation for the UAE-Saudi support, which he saidwill enable up to 3.7 million Yemeni children to continue their study in theirown country, in addition to improving the living conditions of teachers andboosting the domestic economy in general.
He revealedan additional donation of USD40 million to be provided by the two countries tohelp UNICEF fight malnutrition and cholera in Yemen.
