Saudi Arabia starts disbursing SR500,000 to kin of health workers who died of COVID-19

The government of Saudi Arabia has begun disbursing SR500,000 in financial assistance to the families of health workers; who lost their lives while serving COVID-19 patients. This was in implementation of the decision of the Council of Ministers; according to Minister of Health and Chairman of the Saudi Health Council Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah.

The beneficiaries of the financial assistance include kin of both the deceased Saudi and expatriate health workers; and the assistance will cover both civilian and military personnel; working in the government and private health sectors, the minister said.

He noted that the financial assistance for families of each one of the deceased health workers; came in recognition of the healthcare workers’ services and sacrifices; especially those on the front lines fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Extension of Saudi government utmost attention and care

Dr. Al-Rabiah said this assistance is as an extension of the utmost attention and care given by the wise Saudi government to citizens and residents, including employees of the health sector.

He appreciated the endless support and keenness of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman to improve the level and quality of healthcare services being provided to citizens and residents in the Kingdom.

He also lauded the great sacrifices made by workers in health sectors in the Kingdom, with dedication and sincerity in performing their work and offering the best ever healthcare services for patients during the coronavirus pandemic, especially those who sacrificed their lives to preserve the health of citizens and residents, asking God Almighty to have mercy on them and forgive them.

Dr. Al-Rabiah stressed that the health sectors in the Kingdom have made great efforts to contain this epidemic; control the situation; and prevent its spread by all scientific and practical means. While the state has allocated huge budgets to enhance the readiness of the health sector.

The weekly session of the Council of Ministers, held on Oct. 27, 2020, took the great decision for the provision of SR500,000 as financial assistance to the kin of health workers; who lost their lives while serving COVID-19 patients.

The Cabinet decision, which was tipped as a great humanitarian gesture, will be applicable to all those health workers who died of coronavirus effective from March 31 when the first infection of a health worker was reported in the Kingdom following the outbreak of the pandemic.
