Pakistan PM believes 10% of World’s Countries are Responsible for 80% of Carbon Emissions

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan lauded Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Green Initiative, during his participation in the initiative’s summit, inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, highlighting Pakistan’s efforts in this regard, including the planting of approximately 2.5 billion trees, out of 10 billion trees his country aims to plant in the future.

Khan said that ten percent of the world’s countries are responsible for 80% of the total carbon emissions, including Pakistan, which is among the ten most affected countries in the world by climate change, adding that Pakistan has witnessed in the last ten years around 152 severe climate events, sustaining economic losses of more than two to three billion dollars, hence Pakistan needed to take action in this regard including the transformation of 60% of all Pakistan energy to clean energy by 2030, and replacing 30% of means of transportation and communications electric vehicles as well as replacing 2,400 megawatts of coal projects with equivalent hydroelectric power.
