Saudi passports authority clarifies residency renewal process if sponsor is imprisoned

The General Directorate of Passports in Saudi Arabia has clarified the procedure for renewing a worker’s residency permit when the sponsor is imprisoned and the worker needs to complete residency-related procedures.

This clarification came in response to an inquiry sent to the official Passports Directorate account on the X platform, where a follower asked: “My sponsor is in prison and my residency expires in a month. What should I do to finalize my status?”

The Passports Directorate stated that the sponsor’s legal representative must first visit the General Directorate of Prisons to determine the procedures specified in the power of attorney, and then visit the Passports Directorate to carry out the process according to the terms outlined in the authorization.

The Passports Directorate emphasized that the completion of the procedure depends on the powers and steps detailed in the power of attorney.
