United Arab Emirates has welcomed the appointment of Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan Abdelrahman as the new head of Sudan's transitional military council.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation describedthe development as a "step forward reflecting the ambitions of thebrotherly people of Sudan towards security, stability and development,"Read a statement by the UAE foreign affairs ministry.
"The UAE is following with a great interest this defining moment inSudan's modern history and reiterates full trust in the ability of the Sudanesepeople and their national army to survive the challenges in a way that ensuresstability, prosperity and development for the nation," the statement adedd.
"The UAE reaffirms its support for the steps taken by Sudan'stransitional military council to protect people and property, wishing thesesteps would ensure security and stability for the sisterly country."
"UAE wishes all political, factional, popular and military leaders inthe Republic of Sudan will work for protecting legitimacy and ensuring apeaceful transfer of power, a better future for the nation and national unityfor the people of Sudan." The statement concluded.
On Saturday, the chief of the military council General Abdel Fattahal-Burhan vowed to dismantle Bashir's regime, and he lifted a night time curfewwith immediate effect, two days after the Sudanese army toppled the veteranleader, who reached power in 1989.
