Saudi traffic authority outlines right-of-way rules to boost road safety

The General Directorate of Traffic has emphasized the importance of adhering to right-of-way rules, noting that giving priority to eligible vehicles and road users helps improve road safety and reduce accidents.

In a post on its official account on the X platform, the authority explained that right-of-way is given to vehicles traveling on main roads, vehicles coming from the right at intersections with equal priority, and to pedestrians crossing at designated crossings.

The statement added that priority also applies to vehicles coming from other directions when making a U-turn, public transport vehicles traveling in their designated lanes, as well as official convoys and emergency vehicles.

The authority also stressed the need to give priority to vehicles already in the lane when changing lanes, to those with a clear path when part of the road is closed, and to vehicles already inside a roundabout.
