Saudi Arabia’s Kattan Kicks off Africa Tour on Sunday

Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs Ambassador Ahmed Kattan will kick off on Sunday; a tour of several African countries and oversee the signing of a number of agreements.

He will visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Ghana and the Ivory Coast in a Saudi drive to strengthen relations with these countries.

In December, Kattan had paid a visit to Central Africa, Congo-Brazzaville, Angola and Zambia. He had also traveled to Chad, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Madagascar.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Africa has seen noticeable development; during the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Both sides have signed various partnership agreements and the Kingdom has demonstrated its keenness on relations by appointing a minister for African affairs with the aim to further strengthen political and security ties.

Relations are not limited to politics, as they have touched on economic, financial, educational, scientific, cultural, media and social affairs. Saudi Arabia has also been on hand to address African struggles with malnutrition and the treatment of diseases and has offered to play the role of mediator in resolving disputes.

Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan had declared on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is negotiating with COVID-19 manufacturers to provide doses to low-income countries, such as Yemen and African nations.
