Ministry of Commerce warns of fake websites impersonating agency to steal bank data

The Ministry of Commerce has warned against fraud attempts targeting individuals’ bank data, stressing that it does not request account or card numbers, or customer verification codes from beneficiaries.

In a post on its official account on X, the ministry urged the public to be cautious when dealing with fake websites or individuals impersonating the ministry, as these aim to seize bank information for fraudulent activities.

The ministry advised against sharing bank details or verification codes with any party making such requests, and emphasized the importance of verifying the identity of official entities before engaging with them.

The Ministry of Commerce recently released its Consumer Bulletin for the second quarter of 2026, highlighting regulatory efforts to ensure business compliance and strengthen consumer protection.

According to the bulletin, the ministry conducted more than 151,000 inspection visits to commercial establishments and online stores to verify compliance with regulations, and issued over 4,000 discount licenses covering more than 12 million products and goods.

The ministry also reported handling over 137,000 complaints during the same period, with the majority related to online stores and non-compliance with exchange and return policies. The average complaint resolution time was 36 hours.

Additionally, during the second quarter, the ministry carried out 25 recall campaigns covering more than 48,000 defective vehicles and products, as part of its efforts to address technical defects and enhance consumer safety.
