Saudi Arabia'sDeputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman on Thursday said he met top USgovernment officials to discuss regional security and military cooperation.
Prince Khalid, inseparate Twitter posts, said he met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo andDefense Secretary Mark Esper.
During his meetingwith Pompeo, Prince Khalid said they "discussed ways to continue to strengthenthe historic ties between our two countries.
Saudi Arabia and the United States "stand sideby side in bolstering regional and international security and stability",Prince Khalid said of his talks with Pompeo.
He and Esper discussed mutual security challenges andreaffirmed "strong military cooperation in countering terrorism andpreserving peace and stability", the prince said.
Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia and its regional rivalShi'ite Muslim Iran are locked in several proxy wars in the Middle Eastincluding in Yemen and Syria.
The Twitter posts made no mention of them discussingTurkish troops and their Syrian rebel allies launching attacks on Kurdishmilitia in northeast Syria on Wednesday.
