OIC condemns latest Houthi drone attack on Abha airport

Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen has strongly condemned the Houthi militia's latest terrorist attempt to threaten civilians by targeting Abha International Airport with a bomb-laden drone.

The Saudi-led Coalition fighting in Yemen said on Wednesday it had intercepted and destroyed three armed drones launched towards southern Saudi Arabia, including the city of Khamis Mushait.

The coalition also said it had destroyed a trio of boats laden with explosives in the province of Hodeidah, meant for use to carry out future attacks.

"Coalition forces have destroyed these explosives-laden boats," in efforts that help protect maritime shipping lines and global trade in the Red Sea chokepoint of Bab Al-Mandeb strait.

The OIC Secretary-General affirmed that endangering passengers and civilians' lives is a cowardly terrorist act, a war crime, and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law (IHL).

He also reiterated the OIC's support for all measures that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia takes to confront the practices of the terrorist Houthi militia in order to preserve its security, stability and the safety of its citizens and residents.

Dr. Al-Othaimeen called on the international community to take decisive stances to stop the continuous cowardly threats with ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones that the Houthi militia uses in a systematic and deliberate manner to target civilians and civilian objects in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Djibouti strongly condemned the attempt to target Abha International Airport with a drone.

Djibouti affirmed, through its Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dya-Eddine Bamakhrama, its support for the measures taken by the coalition forces, to ensure the protection of civilian objects and civilians, whether in Yemen or in Saudi Arabia, in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
