KACST; K.A. CARE ink pact to boost atomic; renewable energy cooperation

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A. CARE) signed an agreement for enhancing cooperation in divers atomic and renewable energy sectors.

The agreement aims to achieve integration and harness capabilities and resources of the two cities in achieving the Kingdom's ambitions and goals in the fields of atomic and renewable energy.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Energy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of K.A. CARE Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman and Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of KACST Eng. Abdullah Al-Sawaha. KACST President Dr. Munir Al-Desouki; and K.A. CARE President Dr. Khalid Al-Sultan; and a number of senior officials from the two cities were also present in the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement; the two sides will benefit from the research institute and the research reactor and their facilities to develop operational plans to serve the national atomic energy project.

The areas of cooperation between the two entities include building human; technological and research capacities; exchanging scientific experiences; organizing training programs; workshops; and conferences; as well as equipping and developing research laboratories; and providing consultations to serve the fields of atomic and renewable energy; including the National Project for Atomic energy and renewable energy projects.

KACST will also develop content and research disciplines related to the fields of atomic and renewable energy; and exchange information and statistical data to implement research and joint projects in this field.

The integration between the two entities comes as a major step to enhance the Kingdom's leading position as a global leader in the field of atomic and renewable energy. It further enhances the confidence in the capabilities of Saudis working in both the cities in implementing projects and studies in the research and technical fields related to national security; water security; and radiation monitoring. It also aims to develop technologies of these cities to serve the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision and reach an ideal energy mix by the year 2030.
