The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority has clarified that heirs are responsible for settling any outstanding dues and obligations owed by the deceased to the authority.

Through its “Ask Zakat, Tax and Customs” account on X, the authority stated that if a commercial registration is canceled, heirs must deactivate the taxpayer number after confirming there are no active records linked to the deceased from other parties.

The authority added that after settling all dues incurred before the cancellation of the commercial registration, heirs can submit an electronic request to deactivate the taxpayer number. This is done by logging into the taxpayer’s account, selecting “Zakat and Tax Management,” then “Other Services,” choosing “Deactivate Taxpayer Number/Branch,” creating a new request, and completing the required information.

The authority stressed the importance of specifying the type of deactivation as “Deactivate Taxpayer Number,” selecting the reason for deactivation, and attaching the necessary documents to complete the request.

The clarification came in response to an inquiry from a follower regarding her late sister, who continues to receive messages demanding payment of a 500 riyals fee, and asked whether it is possible to request an exemption from these dues.
