Egypt rejects Turkish Aggression on Syrian Territory

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has affirmed Egypt's rejection of the Turkish aggression against Syrian sovereignty and territory, which, he described as contrary to the international law and legitimacy.

Turkey pressed on with a military offensive against Kurdish fighters in northeast Syria for a second day on Thursday, bombing towns from the air and forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. The move came a few days after US troops withdrew from the area.

El-Sisi affirmed "Egypt's rejection of Turkey'saggression on Syria's sovereignty and territory which is contrary to the rulesof international law and international legitimacy," Egyptian presidencyspokesman Bassam Rady said.

El-Sisi warned of the "negative repercussions on unityand territorial safety of Syria," the spokesman added.

The Arab League said it would hold an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss the "Turkish aggression" on Syrian territory following a call by Egypt for the 22-state body to meet over the matter.
