Saudi Arabia launches 2026-2027 sustainable hunting season with new rules

The National Center for Wildlife announced today the launch of the 2026-2027 sustainable hunting season in Saudi Arabia, specifying 30 native species that may be hunted according to approved quotas and types.

According to the Center, the 2026-2027 sustainable hunting season will run from September 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027. The regulatory framework aims to promote sustainable hunting practices and protect biodiversity and ecological balance in the Kingdom.

Now in its sixth year since the initiative began in 2021, the season introduces several regulatory updates, including:

• Increasing the number of permitted species to 30.

• Raising the national hunting quota by 11%.

• Increasing the number of licenses issued by 34%.

• Linking falconry licenses for permitted species to proof of ownership or a falcon passport, to enhance data reliability and compliance.

Hunting regulations and conditions

The Center specified that sustainable terrestrial hunting is limited to the species announced on its official website and the "Fatri" platform, and requires obtaining official permits through the platform.

This includes holders of licensed air and gas-powered hunting rifles, as well as falconers registered with the Saudi Falcon Club.

Hunting of endangered native wildlife is strictly prohibited, as is hunting of all wild animals, including birds, in restricted areas such as cities, villages, farms, rest houses, vital facilities, nature reserves, and major projects like NEOM, Qiddiya, and the Red Sea Project. Hunting is also banned along the Kingdom’s coasts within 20 km inland.

Applications for hunting licenses can be submitted via the Fatri platform when the season opens, at eservices.ncw.gov.sa/home

The Center emphasized that only approved hunting methods are allowed, prohibiting the capture of more than one bird at a time and banning the use of shotguns, nets, or lures. Violations will result in penalties, with enforcement by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Special Forces for Environmental Security and relevant authorities, who will refer offenders to the appropriate bodies.

• Log in to the “Fatri” platform using the National Single Sign-On.

• Select the hunting permit issuance service.

• Specify the type of permit (such as sustainable terrestrial hunting).

• Ensure only permitted methods are used, such as air or gas-powered rifles without gunpowder, or officially registered falcons.

• Adhere to the ban on hunting within urban areas, nature reserves, and major projects.
