Weqaa Center issues four guidelines to protect livestock from abortion-causing diseases

The National Center for the Prevention of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) has emphasized the importance of implementing preventive measures in livestock pens, such as vaccination, disinfection, and isolation, to prevent the spread of diseases that cause abortions and to protect animal health.

Through its official account on X, the center outlined several guidelines to safeguard animals from abortion-causing diseases. First, it recommended vaccination and regular screening, advising livestock owners to vaccinate animals according to Weqaa’s approved programs and to conduct periodic health checks to detect diseases early.

The center also stressed the importance of hygiene and pen management, urging regular cleaning and disinfection of pens and equipment, proper disposal of all abortion-related waste, and isolating animals suspected of infection from the rest of the herd.

Proper nutrition was highlighted as another key measure, with the center advising the provision of healthy feed and clean water, and avoiding contaminated feed or water that could transmit infections.

Finally, the center underscored the need for safe handling practices, such as wearing gloves and protective clothing when dealing with animals, and preventing stray animals from accessing the herd.
