Moroccan family risks lives swimming to Spain’s Ceuta amid migration surge

Social media users have shared videos showing a Moroccan family, including children, attempting to swim across the sea to the Spanish city of Ceuta, highlighting the extreme risks some migrants take in their efforts to reach Europe.

The family members were seen wearing life jackets as they tried to cross the stretch of water separating Morocco’s coast from Ceuta, which has recently witnessed a surge in irregular migration attempts involving thousands of people from Morocco and other nationalities, according to Al Arabiya.

Moroccan authorities said most migrants who attempted the crossing have returned, but the wave of attempts has resulted in dozens of deaths, with 67 bodies found of those who died trying to cross the sea.

These incidents underscore the significant dangers faced by irregular migrants, especially as attempts to reach Ceuta—one of the main gateways to Europe—continue despite repeated warnings about the risks of unsafe sea journeys.
