Body of Omani climber Nazira Al-Harthi found after avalanche in Pakistan

The body of Omani climber Nazira bint Ahmed Al-Harthi, who died following an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, has been found, according to Pakistani authorities and the expedition organizer. Her body was recovered below the avalanche site, Oman News Agency reported.

Avalanche in Pakistan

The incident led to the disappearance of ten climbers, including renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, who was leading the expedition, as well as climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, the United States, and China.

The Pakistan Alpine Club announced last Thursday evening that contact had been lost with the team members since the avalanche, confirming that search and rescue operations were ongoing using aerial and available resources, despite challenging weather conditions.

In a later development, Pakistani officials said the bodies of four missing climbers had been located following the avalanche on Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains. Rescue teams continue efforts to find the remaining six climbers.

Social media platforms have circulated the names and photos of the missing climbers: Nirmal Purja, Yukta Gurung, Nima Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa, and Kili Pemba Sherpa from Nepal; Suhail Sakhi from Pakistan; Mallory Geis from the United States; Nazira Al-Harthi from Oman; and Wang Chong from China.
