Taif pomegranate season boosts agritourism, draws visitors

As pomegranates begin to ripen, Taif is witnessing one of its most vibrant agricultural seasons, with farms stretching across the mountain slopes becoming prime destinations for locals and visitors alike. The scene highlights the intersection of agriculture, tourism, and the local economy.

The pomegranate season is more than just a harvest; it is part of Taif’s agricultural identity, renowned for its diverse seasonal crops such as roses, grapes, apricots, plums, prickly pears, mulberries, figs, and pomegranates. This diversity ensures the governorate remains a year-round attraction.

During the season, farms bustle with activity from early morning as workers pick, sort, and prepare the fruit for market. Many visitors prefer to buy pomegranates directly from the farms, stroll among the trees, and learn about traditional farming methods—a rural tourism experience increasingly popular with families and agricultural enthusiasts.

Agricultural developer Fayez Al-Sufyani told SPA that Taif’s moderate climate, elevation, and abundant seasonal rainfall contribute to the production of high-quality pomegranates. He noted that the season is no longer just about marketing the fruit; it has become an occasion for farmers to meet visitors, with local families offering food products made with pomegranate alongside other regional specialties, giving the season a comprehensive social and economic character.

Al-Sufyani added that year after year, the pomegranate season demonstrates Taif’s ability to turn its agricultural cycles into complete tourism experiences, combining product quality, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. Pomegranates remain one of the region’s most prominent agricultural symbols and a highlight eagerly awaited by visitors each harvest.
